Fav house plants
Here at our place in north Texas, I like to surround ourselves with lots of succulents and cactus-type plants, as they are typically quite low-maintenance and are perfectly suited for the look and ranchy feel of our place, and our home conditions. Of course, if you have pets that tend to snack on your plants, you might want to review toxicity ratings of anything you’d add to their environment. Here’s a little list of my favorite houseplants:

Care & Maintenance – negligible.
Watering & light needs – I bring her into the shower and give her a light spray about once every 10 days. She gets LOTS of indirect bright light from my east-facing huge window over my bathtub.
Availability – I see them in many garden centers, especially those with a great succulent selection.

Watering & light needs – Big girl here gets about a cup of water or so every 10 days. My friend had her outside getting partial sunlight during the growing season, and indoors in their study (which had a wall of west-facing windows), during the cooler months here in north Texas, and she was, of course, amazing; also just growing like gangbusters here in my indirect but bright light situation!
Availability – everywhere, from fancy garden centers to Lowe’s/Home Depot!

Care & Maintenance – negligible.
Watering & light needs – I water mine about once every 7-10 days. Its not that picky about water, as long as it has plenty of bright light, and thus, one of my favorite plants!
Availability – I’ve seen these guys at better garden centers with excellent succulent selections and just recently at HEB (Alliance location) – for cheap! Get one, or two!

Care & Maintenance – negligible.
Watering & light needs – I give a bit – maybe 1/2 cup every ten or so days. Sansevieria famously are super low maintenance seem to be able to handle water-as-an-afterthought, as long as it has a reasonable amount of light (as with most succulents, just lots of bright light, no direct sunlight is best).
Availability – I believe this is a rarer variety of snake plant and can be found at most better garden centers.

Care & Maintenance – low maintenance.
Watering & light needs – Mine typically enjoy this east-facing partially sunny shower window – they enjoy sun in the morning, but bright light throughout the rest of the day. Each orchid has different requirements for care, so if you are interested in orchids, I’d follow instructions based on the type of orchid you have. I have no idea anymore which mine are, but like every plant at the 4J, survival of the fittest reigns.
Availability – My plant friend acquired the Queen of the Night from an Etsy shop a few years ago, but I’ve seen them at only one garden center in our area – Keller’s Landscape Systems. I saw one shipment of them, then never again, so they must be somewhat of a rarity in our geographic area. Orchids can be found from the indoor houseplants section at Lowe’s Home Improvment stores, to our local Brookshires grocery, in the gift area! My favorite one came as a gift from another orchid-loving friend.
